I have always loved glass…colored bottles, vases, dishes, etc., and am particularly drawn to unique and vintage pieces, blenko, fenton, fastoria, etc. The distortion glass creates when looking through it, and the way light reflects and casts hues inspires me to recreate these effects in my paintings. I set up still lifes outdoors, on windowsills, or on tables inside where I can take advantage of natural light. The completed work is often, but not always abstract, allowing the viewer to uncover new things in the painting over time. I like to include linens and other items I’ve collected, particularly silver pieces for their reflective quality, as well as flowers and fruit for added texture and interest. I enjoy creating these paintings, as they allow me to bring things I love to life on canvas.
