I have always loved glass…colored bottles, vases, dishes, etc., and am drawn to Depression, Blenko and Fenton vintage pieces as well as different kinds of fish bottles. I am always looking for unique and interesting shapes and designs in my travels. The way glass distorts when looking through it and how it reflects light and casts brilliant hues inspires me to recreate these effects in my paintings. I arrange groupings outdoors or on windowsills or tables under a window indoors, so the natural sunlight shining through and bouncing off the glass creates colorful compositions. The completed work is often, but not always, somewhat abstract due to the perspective and distance from which the grouping is viewed. I often include linens and silver trays in the arrangements as well as flowers and/or fruit to add different elements of color and texture. These paintings are a lot of fun to create and bring to life on canvas! It can sometimes take an entire day to set up the objects in such a way that the final combination of colors, objects, shapes and textures are just right to begin the actual painting.
